a dirty word SOLC23 #22

My mother always said the dirtiest 4 letter word in the dictionary is MOVE.

Mama had a lot of stuff, and as she aged she knew that she would need to move out of the house where she and Daddy had lived for over 35 years. But the task was overwhelming. It was truly more than she could handle, and the concern over it really weighed on her. It’s a long story, but my parents did finally get moved from the house. By the hardest, and it did not end well.

So she was right about her assessment of this dirty word.

We have recently moved – twice. Out of our home of 17 years, with furniture into storage and boxes of “stuff” in our garage at the lake house, where we lived for nine months as we remodeled. Then back out of storage (and the packed garage) into the new/old house.

Hard work. But now, the move is all done! And we love it!

Our daughter and her husband have purchased a beach house to rent – and remodel. They made several trips from Tennessee to Florida – moving furniture, lights, decorative items, linens, kitchen ware, window coverings, etc. Long trips, one U-Haul in the ditch, some unreliable workers.

More hard work and much mental stress. But now, the move and the work are all done! And they love it!

My husband said we should have started a business long ago – Merrill’s Movers – because we have moved ourselves, our children, our parents, and our grandparents, many times over.

And now, another move!

Our daughter and her family are moving to a new home. My husband and I went to help pack a few things the other day. As happy as we were to help, it is still not a fun job! And there’s lots more to do.

The owners of the home they are buying were so gracious to allow us to come see the house today. (Our daughter and her husband met some contractors there to make plans, and we were there to watch our grandson.) This opportunity is such a blessing, and the new home will be perfect for their family.

Yes, as always, it will be hard work, but one day it will be all done – and, as all our moves have been, so worth it! They will love it!
