morning walk

each silent step,

moving through the mist –

the pathway divides, then

seals up behind

the fog is thick

familiar territory,

yet transformed…

a predawn walk in blurry darkness

circles of familiar sights,

spotlighted by lampposts

high above

another circle

surrounds the fingernail moon

cool dampness seeping …

around, between, and into

clothes, bones, and thoughts

a solid wall with secret passages

yet …

a beam of light shows

mist moving in the glow

In our very dry climate, I find it hard to imagine such a walk, but you’ve shown it so well-love that ‘cool dampness seeping, into thoughts, too!’. Interesting to contemplate!

    • Here we say that every August morning fog indicates a winter snowfall. I have been counting – only 2 so far – but it doesn’t always work out that way. Today is so humid it is like walking through soup but not foggy. Thanks for your comment!

  2. Your images are breathtaking! You are extremely talented …love the word choice. Does it just pop out on to the page? I’m finding that I want to know more about the secret passages. xo

    • Thank you! No it never “just pops out onto the page.” Sometimes it rolls around in my mind before I write – that helps me start. And this one went through several stages. First I just wrote phrases, then mulled on the words, and revised for three or four days. Glad you liked it. As for the secret passages, I would like to know more too. They seemed to open up just when we thought we couldn’t get through the thickness. But they are gone now…
